Video: What's faster--a Formula 1 car or a Superbike?

In a race, a superbike is faster off the line than a Formula 1 car but for the most part, expect the latter to catch up and overtake the former just a few seconds later. North One Television, "one of Europe’s biggest and most respected independent media companies," decided to take this even further.

For its show Speed with Guy Martin, North One Television pitted David Coulthard in a 2012 Formula 1 car, the Red Bull RB8, against Guy Martin on a 1,000cc Tyco BMW Superbike in a race around the famed 5.89km Silverstone Circuit.

For the uninitiated, Coulthard is a square-jawed former Formula 1 driver with 13 race wins under his belt and whose best finish in the sport was in second place for the 2001 season behind Michael Schumacher. Martin, on the other hand, is a motorcycle racer who has run the Isle of Man TT 12 times and competes in the British Superbike Championship.

Anyway, what makes this race different is that Coulthard has to complete four laps around the track while Martin only has to do three. Sure enough, Martin was quicker off the line at the start of the race but Coulthard did manage to grab the lead just as they both went into the first corner.

So, who do you think will win: Coulthard in the Red Bull RB8 or Martin in the Tyco BMW Superbike? Watch the video below to find out.
