Hyundai's Genesis luxury sub-brand to be headed by ex-Lamborghini executive

In November 2015, Hyundai announced that it is spinning off its 'Genesis' nameplate into a separate luxury brand, much like Lexus is Toyota and Infiniti is to Nissan. To handle the new Genesis brand, the Korean carmaker has tapped Manfred Fitzgerald, the former Director of Brand and Design at Lamborghini.


Effective January 2016, Fitzgerald is in charge of establishing and executing strategies for the Genesis brand as the Senior Vice President. In his new role, Fitzgerald will be based at Hyundai's headquarters in Seoul where he is tasked to develop the brand strategy, marketing and other business operations within the Genesis brand.

In his 12 years in Lamborghini, Fitzgerald played a pivotal role in transforming the Italian car brand from a prototype car company to a luxury car brand, increasing its sales tenfold as the Director of Brand and Design.

For Hyundai, Fitzgerald will be working alongside Luc Donckerwolke, who will lead the Genesis brand's Prestige Design Division as Head of the Hyundai Motor Design Center.
