After 68 years, the last Land Rover Defender has rolled off the production line

After 68 years in production, the last of the classic Land Rover Defender as we know it has rolled out of the British vehicle maker's Solihull production facility in the United Kingdom.

The very last Defender to be produced is a short wheelbase Defender 90 Heritage Soft Top and as expected of an iconic vehicle, it will not go on sale but instead will be housed in the Jaguar Land Rover Collection.

According to Land Rover, since production of the vehicle that came to be known as the Defender started in 1948, over two million units have been built. Initially known as the Land Rover Series I, it was renamed as the Defender in 1990 as Land Rover's production portfolio grew through the years to include the Range Rover and the then-newly-launched Discovery. In 2015, the two-millionth Defender was sold for £400,000 (over P27 million), "a far cry from the original £450 (over P30,000) the first Land Rover sold for at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show.

"Today we celebrate what generations of men and women have done since the outline for the Land Rover was originally drawn in the sand," said Jaguar Land Rover chief executive Dr. Ralf Speth. "The Series Land Rover, now Defender, is the origin of our legendary capability, a vehicle that makes the world a better place, often in some of the most extreme circumstances. There will always be a special place in our hearts for Defender, among all our employees, but this is not the end. We have a glorious past to champion, and a wonderful future to look forward to."

Farewell, Land Rover (Series I) Defender.

Ford to close its Japan operations by the end of 2016

Despite launching the current-generation Ford Mustang in 2015--and making it available to right-hand-drive markets for the first time--and despite the impending availability of the all-new Ford GT later this year, Ford has announced that it is abandoning its operations in Japan "in the second half of this year."

Ford Japan Limited President Toshio Morita said in a statement though that it will continue to provide after-sales service and honor the warranties of its current Ford and Lincoln customers.

The Japanese public has always been fiercely loyal to its domestic car manufacturers so Ford always knew it was going to be an uphill battle. Sadly for Ford, the only foreign car brands that had some measure of success in Japan were the European ones.

Better luck next time, Ford. If there will be a next time...

DeLorean Motor Company hopes to begin reproduction of its iconic vehicle by 2017

With the recent approval of a bill in the United States Congres that, among other things, allows low-volume motor vehicle manufacturers to reproduce a limited number of replica vehicles annually--vehicles that resemble the appearance of cars produced 25 years ago or more--the DeLorean Motor Company has announced that it plans to resume production of its lone model, the iconic DeLorean DMC-12, by 2017.

The DeLorean Motor Company clarified though that, while the bill officially gives them the go-signal to reproduce the car 34 years after the last model rolled out of the original plant in Northern Ireland, it will still have to meet Clean Air Act standards based on the model year in which the vehicle is produced.

Fortunately, as a low-volume vehicle manufacturer, the new law allows the DeLorean Motor Company to meet the standards by either procuring the engines and emissions control and on-board diagnostic systems from a major car manufacturer or by creating its own engine which has passed the standard and granted an executive order by the California Air Resources Board. According to DeLorean, it is already looking for a supplier for its engine and other necessary parts for it to meet its target of reproducing the DMC-12 by 2017.

"A number of hurdles exist before production can begin, and we're still early on in this process of determining the feasibility of moving forward," the DeLorean Motor Company said in a statement.

So, if you plan on acquiring a DeLorean DMC-12 soon, you should place your order right now because the DeLorean Motor Company can only produce no more than 325 units in a calendar year as stated in the law.

Jaguar to release 322kph Jaguar F-Type SVR into the wild!

The current range-topping Jaguar F-Type variant is the V8 S, with its 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 488hp and 625Nm of torque to propel the coupe to a electronically-limited top speed of 300kph. Now, if that's still a tad tame for you, the British carmaker will launch at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show the 322kph-capable Jaguar F-Type SVR.

According to Jaguar, the F-Type SVR was developed "to exploit the two-seat aluminum sports car's full potential while retaining its day-to-day usability.

Though no specifications of the F-Type SVR were revealed at its announcement, Jaguar did share that it will go on sale later this year as both a coupe and a convertible.

"The new F-TYPE SVR is the first series production Jaguar to be developed by Special Vehicle Operations and benefits from everything we know about precision engineering, performance and design." said Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations managing director John Edwards."The result is a 200mph (322kph), all-weather supercar that you can drive every day--we even made a Convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system."

Korean carmaker SsangYong is back in the Philippines!

A couple of weeks ago, we were tipped off that SsangYong, a Korean car brand that was previously sold in the Philippines (as far as we know) solely through Wheels, Inc., was coming back to the Philippines via Berjaya Auto Philippines, the same company that successfully took over the distribution of Mazda vehicles in the country from Ford Philippines. Unfortunately, our contacts from within Berjaya Auto Philippines were mum on the matter, and since we're not one to spread unfounded rumors, we never reported it here.

Well, at a press conference yesterday hosted by Berjaya Auto Philippines, it finally confirmed that it is taking over the SsangYong brand in the country. Tasked to head the newly-founded SsangYong Berjaya Motor Philippines Inc. is David Macasadia, a 25-year automotive industry veteran who will be leaving his post as as the after-sales director of Mazda Philippines to take charge of the Korean carmaker's local operations as its managing director.

According to Macasadia, SsangYong Philippines will initially introduce three models to the market: the SsangYong Korando compact SUV; the SsangYong Rodius MPV; and the SsangYong Tivoli subcompact crossover which was launched only a year ago in its home market of Korea. All three models are due to arrive on our shores in April and will be sold in four dealerships: two in Metro Manila, one in Visayas, and one in Mindanao. SsangYong Philippines does plan to introduce more models locally from the Korean carmaker in the future.

SsangYong's return to the Philippine market is also timely with the approval of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement as reported by recently which, Macasadia confirmed, will bring down the taxes and duties levied on Korean-made vehicles from 20% to just 5%.

Of course, we had to ask Macasadia if SsangYong Philippines will provide after-market support for the SsangYong units that were sold by the previous distributor.

"We will because these are still SsangYong vehicles,"shared Macasadia, "but they (the vehicle owners) will have to wait for the parts because these are all old units that we don't readily support."

On another note, though SsangYong's reentry into the Philippines via Berjaya was kept very hush-hush until yesterday's press conference, it was really right under our noses all along. In Berjaya Philippines' annual report for 2015 which was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission last August 13, 2015, corporate treasurer Tan Eng Hwa and assistant corporate secretary Marie Lourdes Sia-Bernas are listed as officers of Ssangyong Berjaya Motor Philippines, Inc.

Welcome (back) to the Philippines, SsangYong Motor Company!

The all-new Ford GT is coming to the Philippines!

In January 2015 at the North American International Auto Show, Ford revealed the all-new Ford GT, nine years after it ceased to produce the original GT in 2006. Ford's unveiling of the all-new GT took everyone by surprise since the American carmaker never let on that it was developing a successor to its short-lived supercar. Locally, the Ford GT was only available through grey market importers as Ford Philippines never officially offered it. Well, that's no longer the case for the all-new Ford GT as the carmaker has confirmed that it is indeed making it available to its customers in the Philippines.

The news was revealed on, after the site saw the car listed under the "Performance Cars" category together with the Ford Mustang in Ford Philippines' website, then got in touch with Ford Philippines' assistant vice president for communications Joseph Ayllon who confirmed that the Ford GT "will be offered in the Philippine market," with information on the car's pricing and other important details to be disclosed "closer to the launch."

As to when that may be, it could be happening very, very soon as Ford is now advising interested customers on the supercar's section to "check back in February for application details."

Would it be too much to hope for Ford Philippines to make available a test drive unit of the all-new Ford GT?

Uber to allow multiple passengers to share one vehicle with UberHOP option

Popular ride-sharing app Uber will now allow multiple passengers to share one vehicle if they're all headed in the same direction through its UberHOP option.

To avail of  the UberHOP option, a customer needs to open the Uber app on their smartphone, select the option, and then check if he or she is near an an area where UberHOP is available. If the UberHOP option is is available in the area, the customer can then request for a ride. The app will then pair up the customer with a driver as well as other Uber passengers who are also headed in the same direction. A pick-up point will then be relayed to the customers and the Uber passengers, with five passengers being the maximum number of who will share the same vehicle. Like the standard Uber service, an image of the vehicle and driver will be displayed on the app for easier identification. The UberHOP passengers will then be dropped off at a common area to complete the trip. Also, an UberHOP request is only good for one passenger so if the passenger has a companion, the companion will have to file his or her own UberHOP request.

According to Uber, the UberHop option is still on its pilot stage so it is currently being offered only to passengers in Makati and Bonifacio Global City on weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. and from 4 to 9 p.m. for a flat rate of P75.

"Our goal is to reduce congestion and make commuting more efficient and affordable by putting more riders into fewer vehicles," Uber said in a statement. "At the same time, riders get to enjoy the same Uber experience while saving up to 70% from what they would normally pay for an UberX ride. UberHOP is your safe, convenient, and affordable way to get around the city. With uberHOP, we hope that more people will enjoy the benefits of ridesharing and help reduce traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

Japanese aftermarket car parts, accessories shop Autobacs to enter Philippine market

Autobacs, one of Japan's biggest car parts and accessories shops with over 600 outlets globally, is entering the Philippine market through a capital and business alliance with Motech, a local automotive maintenance and repair service chain that currently operates 43 stores locally.

Under the alliance, Autobacs will acquire 9.93% of Magnificent7 Automotive and Franchising Company, which Motech operates under, for P7.5 million. According to Autobacs, as a result of the improving Philippine economy and the growing number of cars on the road, its entry into the Philippine market was spurred by the "large potential in the retail and wholesale of automotive related goods and automotive repair services."

Besides supplying its products to the Motech chain of stores, Autobacs is expected to share its business knowledge and the skills needed to develop multiple stores with Magnificent7. In return, Magnificent7 is expected to expand its Motech stores to 500 by 2025. Of the planned 500 stores, 123 will be established in the Philippines by 2020 while 377 stores will be put up across the ASEAN region.

The alliance will also see Motech mechanics being trained in Japan by Autobacs for one to two years before the chain pushes through with its expansion in the region.

"This alliance allows us to have the synergy of Japanese branding and high quality service and parts, fused with our localized and personalized business model," said Magnificent7 president and chief executive officer Eugene Sergio Naguiat. "This will be further developed to cater not only to the Philippines but also to other ASEAN countries. With our personalized services and Autobacs technological expertise, we will create a revolutionary change in the industry, especially in the quick service automotive segment."

Toyota Motor Philippines launches all-new Toyota Fortuner, with delivery of units starting in March

Toyota Motor Philippines is starting 2016 with a bang by launching the all-new Toyota Fortuner.

The launch of the all-new, second-generation Toyota Fortuner comes 10 years after the nameplate was first introduced to the local market; that's twice the lifespan of most car models which is why the midsize SUV's replacement was highly anticipated.

That 10-year gap is evident in the styling of the all-new model since it's not as stodgy-looking as its predecessor as it adopts the "Keen Look" design concept. This gives the all-new Fortuner a more upscale design that's similar to that of the current Toyota Corolla, like the slim headlights (LEDs in the V variants, halogens in the Gs) with LED daytime running lights that blend neatly with the chrome grille. The Fortuner is also significantly longer than its predecessor--a difference of nearly four inches--which is emphasized by the lightning bolt shaped-like kink on the rear doors, while the blacked-out exterior D-pillars add a sense of gravitas to the vehicle's side profile. The added length also improves the vehicle's cargo-carrying capacity even with the third-row jump seats deployed. A welcome feature for the V variants is the automatic tailgate which can be opened and closed with a simple push of a button.

Inside, Toyota finally outgrows its love for wood paneling and beige interiors. Instead, the all-new Fortuner's cabin gets a lot of black leather, from the seats to the dashboard and door panels. That's right, there's no fake stitching in this SUV. As a matter of fact, if the Japanese carmaker added more cowhide skin in the cabin, you might even mistake the Fortuner for a Land Cruiser Prado.

The all-new Fortuner is available with three powertrain options. The 2.7-liter gasoline engine that powers a G variant with the six-speed automatic transmission produces 163hp and 245Nm. A 2.4-liter diesel mill propels three variants--the G six-speed manual and automatic models and the 4x2 V--with 147hp and 400Nm under the hood, while the range-topping 2.7-liter diesel V, the sole variant available with the 4x4 drivetrain, produces 174hp and 450Nm.

Prices of the all-new Toyota Fortuner starts at P1.386 million for the 2.4-liter G with manual transmission to P2.126 million for the 2.8-liter 4x4 V variant. The White Pearl color option for both V variants will cost buyers an additional P15,000. TMP's local dealerships are currently accepting reservations for the all-new Fortuner with delivery of the units starting in March.

Fortuner4x42.8 V Dsl AT (White Pearl)P2.141 million
2.8 V Dsl ATP2.126 million
4x22.4 V DSl AT (White Pearl)P1.751 million
2.4 V Dsl ATP1.736 million
2.4 G Dsl ATP1.476 million
2.7 G Gas ATP1.392 million
2.4 G Dsl MTP1.386 million

Of the seven available variants, we believe the 2.4-liter diesel V 4x2 variant with automatic transmission provides the most value for your money, specifically because it has all the features of the top-spec'd 2.8 V minus the higher displacement engine and the four-wheel drivetrain. That's a price difference of nearly P400,000. Throw in around P70,000 more and you can buy the base variant of the Toyota Wigo!

Pornhub's 2015 Year in Review reveals Philippines' preference in porn calls itself the "world's biggest porn site," and it probably is since it's basically a tube site where you can actually watch porn clips for free. As such, millions--maybe even billions--of people browse through its content.

At the end of every year, Pornhub releases the data it has compiled "from billions of hits, all to explore the intricacies of online porn viewership," and for 2015, the Philippines has made some inroads in pornography that has caught the site's attention.

Unsurprisingly, traditional local media outlets--and a few new-media ones like Yugatech--only touched on one part of the report: Pornhub's visitors from the Philippines spent an average of 12 minutes and 45 seconds on  the site, the most by any country as second-placed United States averaged nine minutes and 51 seconds. That's right, Filipinos spent nearly three minutes more on Pornhub than Americans. Perhaps we could account for that lengthy period by Filipinos having to deal with slow internet service, which is entirely plausible but then again, we're just natural horndogs.

Being typical guys, we, of course, dug deeper through Pornhub's extensive data for 2015 and we found a few more juicy tidbits regarding the Philippines' porn-viewing habits.

Of the top 20 countries that visit Pornhub, the Philippines has climbed up three notches to 16th place, up by three notches from 2014's 19th place.

When it comes to interests, the Philippines' most searched categories in porn are the words "teen," "massage," and "cartoon."

Furthermore, a closer look into the Philippines top 10 searches in Pornhub reveals we patronize our own, with the terms "pinoy" and "pinay" leading the list while a search for "pinoy scandal" showed the most growth with an increase of 248%. As for the most searched pornstar locally, it's recent Manila visitor Maria Ozawa.

Here are the other notable insights Pornhub gleaned from Pinoy porn viewing habits:

  • When it comes to Pornhub's female viewers, the Philippines is also on top at 35%, up by 1% from 2014.

  • Concerning the age of Pornhub's viewers from the Philippines, the 18 to 24 year-old bracket is the most at 42% followed by the 25 to 34 year-old (31%), the 35 to 44 year-old (12%), the 45 to 54 year-old (7%), the 55 to 64 year-old (5%), and those who are 65 years old and above (3%).

  • For devices used to access Pornhub, smartphones have shown a significant increase at 60%, up by 12% from 2014 while desktop computer usage has shrunk to 26% from 2014's 38%. Tablets though have remained steadfast at 14% year-to-year.

  • Holidays and events in the Philippines also have an effect on Pornhub. Traffic to the site decreased by 44% on the New Year's Eve of 2014 while viewership on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve lessened by 36% and 5%, respectively. Easter Sunday hardly affected Pornhub's traffic from the Philippines as it registered only a meager 2% decrease. Horny Filipinos and Filipinas though didn't care much for the highly-anticipated Pacquiao vs. Mayweather boxing match as traffic only went down by 15%.

#FaptasticFriday: Miss Colombia 2015 Ariadna Gutierrez

If you've been living under a rock, Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia was erroneously proclaimed at the Miss Universe 2015 beauty pageant by host Steve Harvey as the winner instead of the actual winner, Philippines' Pia Wurtzbach.

Although Harvey publicly acknowledged his mistake on air, the damage was done to Gutierrez who suffered the indignity and humiliation of having the crown and title taken from her, her elation being turned to shame and distraught.

While we're happy that a fellow Filipino won the pageant in the end, we feel sorry for the lovely Ariadna for what happened to her. Despite claims that she acted like she was a shoo-in for the crown even before the pageant got underway, nobody deserves that kind of humiliation in front of millions of viewers.

Incidentally, Ariadna was offered by Vivid Entertainment boss Steve Hirsch US $1 million to appear in a sex tape. On top of the generous offer, Hirsch will even allow Ariadna to pick her partners in the video, the type of sex she'll have, and even how many movies she'll appear in. As an added bonus, Hirsch even claimed that he will commission the very first Vivid Girl Crown for her that "will be grander than anything Miss Philippines will ever wear."

Sadly, in an interview for TV y Novelas, Ariadna has declined the offer but instead shared that she was willing to pose nude for a publication "as long as it is not vulgar."

So, while we do hope to see her naked one day, we'll have to make do with her photos on Instagram. Enjoy!

The all-new, second-generation Chevrolet Cruze hatchback looks gorgeous!

In June 2015, Chevrolet revealed the second-generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan. While we're still waiting for the all-new model to replace the current model that's still being sold in the showroom, the American carmaker has unveiled the hatchback version of the Cruze nameplate--and to say that it looks nice is an understatement because we think it's absolutely gorgeous.

Set to debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback has the same 2,700mm wheelbase as the sedan model. With its unique roof and rear-end design--which is capped by wraparound taillights and an integrated roof-mounted spoiler--the Cruze hatchback offers 524 liters of cargo space with the rear seats up which can then be increased to 1,189 liters with the rear seats folded down.

For the North American market, the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback will be offered with the RS package which equips the vehicle with unique front and rear fascias, rocker panels, rear spoiler, and fog lamps.

When Chevrolet Philippines finally updates its lineup with the all-new Chevrolet Cruze,  we hope we won't have to wait too long to see the hatchback variant be made available to interested buyers.

LTFRB to include premium double-decker buses for its Point to Point Bus Service starting today

Over the Christmas holiday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) rolled out its Premium Point to Point (P2P) Bus Service. Unlike the regular bus service which operates on the whims of the, well, operator, the P2P service strictly follows a schedule and the buses follow a specific route and only stop when they reach their destination, specifically from SM North EDSA, Trinoma, or SM Megamall to either Park Square Ayala or Glorietta 5, and vice versa.

Originally, the buses that traveled the route were standard air-conditioned buses. Starting today though at 7:30 a.m., the LTFRB will field premium double-decker buses for the SM North to Glorietta 5 route.

The news was shared yesterday by the agency through the LTFRB Chairman's Twitter account.

Though a few local bus operators have double-decker buses in their fleet, these are usually for hire and used on out-of-town trips. To our knowledge, the last time a double-decker bus was used as public transport in Metro Manila was in the late 1980s. Operated by the Metro Manila Transit Corporation, the same operator that handled the air-conditioned Love Bus fleet at that time, the double-decker buses used were the Leyland Atlanteans, the same bus model ubiquitously used by the London Transport.

Video: Watch 26 years' worth of 21 Formula 1 cars taking the same Senna 'S' curves on Interlagos

Interlagos is one of our favorite Formula 1 tracks for a lot of reasons not only because it often serves as one of, if not, the last race of the season, but also because of its challenging design. It has a combination of tight corners and sweeping straights, is one of the few races that's run counter-clockwise, and the track itself is built on an undulating surface instead of the more common flat ones used in modern F1 tracks.

One example on the track that exhibits all these qualities is the Senna 'S' curves which is the collective name for Turns 1 and 2. From the long Grandstand Straight, entry to Turn 1 is a tight downhill left followed by an equally tight downhill right Turn 2 before the sweeping, slightly uphill entry to the Curva do Sol Turn 3. According to Wikipedia, the Senna 'S' curves is challenging because Turns 1 and 2 "have a different angle, a different radius, a different length, a different inclination (inward or outward) and a different shape (besides the terrain goes down and then up again)."

YouTube channel rferrerF1 recently posted a video that shows Formula 1 cars from 1990 to 2014 tackling the Senna 'S' curves. It's worth noting how the entrance and exit speeds of the cars from 1990 are much slower compared to the cars that followed in the later years. You'll also notice how the Williams-Renault FW13B driven by Ricardo Patrese in the 1990 season still used a six-speed manual gearbox.

Check out the video below.

Welcome to the jungle! The original Guns N' Roses lineup is reuniting for Coachella!

That's right! Eighteen years after the original Guns N' Roses lineup split up in August 1997, the "most dangerous band in the world" is back!

Rumors of a Guns N' Roses reunion with the original lineup has been going on for years following the acrimonious split between singer Axl Rose and most of the band members: first, it was rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin in 1991 followed by lead guitarist Slash in 1996 and finally, bassist Duff McKagan a year later. Original drummer Steve Adler was released in 1990 due to substance abuse. Rose, as the remaining member of the original lineup, has continued to perform as the band's vocalist with the band's lineup continuously changing.

Following Slash's revelation in an interview in August 2015 that he was once again talking to Rose, rumors of the much-awaited reunion began to gain traction. Helping to fan the fervor even more was when the band's official website,, began to display on its homepage the original Guns N' Roses logo. Rose though continued to play coy with the rumors, until the organizers of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival posted the performers for its six-day April 2016 event yesterday, with Guns N'Roses headlining the shows on April 16 and 23...

A photo posted by @coachella on

Sure, that really isn't much to go on with regards to a reunion. Slash and McKagan's simultaneous post on their respective Instagram pages--of the same classic GN'R logo with a backdrop of the Coachella poster--and Rose's post on his Twitter account though finally "confirmed" that the band is indeed really back.

A photo posted by @slash on

Now where do we sell our kidneys to be able to watch Guns N' Roses in Coachella? Just to be safe just in case the also-rumored tour to follow won't push through--or if it does, doesn't have Manila as one of its stops.

 Welcome to the jungle, baby!

After 1,359 regular-season games, Tim Duncan fails to score a point in a game

For the first time in his career, after 1,359 regular-season games from when he first took the court against against the Denver Nuggets in October 31, 1997 where he scored 15 points, San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan has failed to score a point in a game.

Duncan's record fell in the January 2, 2016 duel between the Spurs and the Houston Rockets at the former's home court in the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The game, which was won by the Spurs 121-103, saw Duncan only make three field goal attempts and play for only 14 minutes.

Although the 2015--2016 season is far from over, this season has been Duncan's weakest so far with an average of 8.7 points and 7.9 rebounds after 29 games. Spurs coach Greg Popovich did say before the start of the season though that he'd like to keep Duncan well-rested as the team makes its way into the playoffs.

Video: LOVE Magazine's Advent Calendar features 31 days of sexiness

Wikipedia describes an advent calendar as a "special calendar used to count or celebrate the days in anticipation of Christmas." Said to be first used in the 19th century, today's advent calendars usually have a theme. From our personal experience with an advent calendar sent by a relative from the United States one time, ours had windows covering the dates that, when you opened them, revealed a chocolate treat inside.

For bi-annual British style magazine Love, its take on the advent calendar for the recent Christmas season was a series of videos featuring celebrities and supermodels like Kendall Jenner, Pamela Anderson, Irina Shayk, and Emily Ratajkowski, to name a few, and directed by renowned photographers like Sam Faulkner, Doug Inglish, and Drew Jarrett. And just so you know, the lovely ladies featured are in various state of undress--from lingerie to swimsuits.

You can check out some of the videos below while the rest, you can find at LOVE Magazine's YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Video: Goodbye Philippines documentary takes a close look at Bulacan's backyard firecracker manufacturing industry

Did you know that the Philippine National Police (PNP) classifies a firecracker as having only half a teaspoon of black powder, or gun powder, and any incendiary device that has more than that is already classified as an explosive? Well, that's according to the PNP personnel interviewed for a documentary shot by Full Stack Philippines about the backyard firecracker manufacturing industry in Bulacan.

Aptly titled Goodbye Philippines after the obscenely large firecracker that contains half a kilogram of black powder in its triangular paper package, the documentary touches on the local firecracker manufacturing industry in Bocaue, Bulacan--from the people who make them in their backyard and the medical personnel that treat the victims injured by the mishandling of the firecrackers to the emergency personnel who respond to fires in the area which, as expected, are sometimes caused by firecrackers.

A surprising note--at least to me--that was mentioned in the documentary is that local delicacies made of sticky rice are contributing factors to firecracker-related injuries. The video also shows how lamentable the local firecracker manufacturing industry is as the individuals behind it would rather make simple ones that explode and make noise, forcing the sellers to procure the flashy aerial fireworks from China.

You can watch the 14-minute long documentary below.

Hyundai's Genesis luxury sub-brand to be headed by ex-Lamborghini executive

In November 2015, Hyundai announced that it is spinning off its 'Genesis' nameplate into a separate luxury brand, much like Lexus is Toyota and Infiniti is to Nissan. To handle the new Genesis brand, the Korean carmaker has tapped Manfred Fitzgerald, the former Director of Brand and Design at Lamborghini.

Effective January 2016, Fitzgerald is in charge of establishing and executing strategies for the Genesis brand as the Senior Vice President. In his new role, Fitzgerald will be based at Hyundai's headquarters in Seoul where he is tasked to develop the brand strategy, marketing and other business operations within the Genesis brand.

In his 12 years in Lamborghini, Fitzgerald played a pivotal role in transforming the Italian car brand from a prototype car company to a luxury car brand, increasing its sales tenfold as the Director of Brand and Design.

For Hyundai, Fitzgerald will be working alongside Luc Donckerwolke, who will lead the Genesis brand's Prestige Design Division as Head of the Hyundai Motor Design Center.
