Tiger Woods' latest endorsement deal...

Tiger Woods may have lost some of his high-profile endorsement deals.  However, some are wise to capitalize on this, and since Woods needs the money to keep banging his bevy of babes, he'll gladly take the money AND some samples of his latest product endorsement.  After all, he definitely needs it.

Environment charter a key component for Suzuki product development

Recognizing the changing social circumstances surrounding its global operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation has issued a global environmental charter that clearly outlines its corporate policy to pass on to the next generation a clean environment and bountiful society. Aside from observing environmental laws, Suzuki has also taken the initiative of reducing the pressure placed on the environment by developing eco-friendly vehicles for the global market.

In all its product development efforts, Suzuki engineers are mandated to focus on: (1) improving fuel efficiency; (2) reducing exhaust emissions; (3) promoting the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle; (4) managing and reducing materials with environmental impact; and (5) noise reduction.

Suzuki automobiles have earned a well-deserved reputation for fuel-efficient performance. These have been achieved through engine design, use of continuously variable transmission (CVT), reduced vehicle weight, and better aerodynamics. A new mini-vehicle launched abroad, the Suzuki Cervo SR was introduced with a direct injection intercooler turbo engine and a 7-speed CVT. This achieved emissions 75% lower than 2005 emission standards, the only mini turbo vehicle compatible with the green taxation plan. For its motorcycle models, Suzuki is starting to switch to electronically controlled fuel injection systems to optimize fuel management and reduce emissions for some models launched abroad.

To reduce vehicle weight, Suzuki R&D engineers have improved manufacturing methods to strengthen and reinforce body parts while controlling weight. High-tensile steel is used extensively in all Suzuki vehicles for lighter vehicles with better collision energy absorption. Alternator loads have been reduced to minimize electric power consumption for lamps and other electric components. Suzuki vehicles are also starting to incorporate fuel consumption indicators in their instrument panels to encourage drivers to implement fuel-efficient driving.

For its recycling efforts, Suzuki has succeeded in recycling used glass from end-of-life vehicles, considered a difficult challenge for many automotive manufacturers. This is in addition to extensive application of recyclable resin parts. Suzuki designers are also working to reduce or eliminate environmental impact materials such as lead, mercury, hexavelent chromium, and cadmium in Suzuki vehicles.

Another area that Suzuki is working on is in reducing traffic noise produced by vehicles, particularly those produced by the engine, transmission, intake and exhaust systems, etc. Suzuki vehicles are designed with sound insulation covers to prevent noise leakage.

At the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki Motor Corporation exhibited several concept vehicles employing alternative energy sources, including...

the Burgman fuel-cell scooter...

the SX4-FCV...

the Swift Hybrid...

and a fuel-cell personal mobility vehicle.

Global warming countermeasures, measures for reducing environmental impact substances and measures for recycling are some of the environmental issues that the Suzuki Group has dealt with over the past years. Establishing compatibility between environmental measures and future corporate growth is major managerial challenge for Suzuki. So that the costs of environmental measures are not passed on to consumers, Suzuki has vigorously conducted R&D as well as capital investments in order to provide products of even higher added value.

The Suzuki Group is composed of 177 companies, including sales-related subsidiaries, manufacturing-related subsidiaries, and non-manufacturing related subsidiaries. All Group companies are mandated to implement the Suzuki Global Environment Charter.

Philippine-built Mazda3 scores another win in Thailand Quality Tests

For the third consecutive year, Philippine-built Mazda3 won the Thailand Initial Quality Study (IQS) in the mid-size car segment. This is according to a J.D. Power Asia Pacific Report which released the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2009 Thailand Initial Quality Study.

The study, which measures problems customers experience with their new vehicle during the first two to six months of ownership, examines more than 200 problem symptoms covering eight categories. These categories, listed in order of frequency of reported problems, include: vehicle exterior; engine and transmission; driving experience; HVAC; audio, entertainment and navigation; features, controls and displays; vehicle interior; and seats.

Overall quality performance is determined by the problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.
The Mazda3 (137 PP100) ranks highest in the midsize car segment for the third consecutive year, besting top Japanese competitors.

“The Thailand IQS result further strengthens Mazda3's reputation as a globally multi-awarded compact sedan. More importantly, it validates the strength of our Philippine manufacturing operations and our quality process, which have been producing the Mazda3 in our Sta. Rosa, Laguna plant. It is also a testament to the world-class craftsmanship and dedication of Ford Motor Company Philippines' Filipino workforce which enabled these vehicles to earn such citations,” said Steven Tan, VP for Marketing & Sales, Mazda Philippines.

The 2009 Thailand IQS Study is based on evaluations from 3,460 owners who purchased their new vehicle between October 2008 and July 2009. The study includes 58 different passenger car, pickup truck and utility vehicle models covering 11 different makes. The study was fielded between April and September 2009.

Check out the winning Mazda3 by visiting any Mazda dealership nearest you: Mazda Alabang, Mazda Makati, Mazda Greenhills, Mazda Quezon Avenue, Mazda Batangas, Mazda Cebu, and Mazda Pampanga. For more information, please visit

It's a good thing that Richard Gutierrez owned a Nissan GT-R...

...because if he was driving a Bugatti Veyron at the insane speed he was doing in the GT-R while going down a dark, two-lane "highway" in the middle of the night, I'd feel sorry for his family, for his dead passenger and his family AND for the totaled Veyron. As it is, I already feel sorry for his dead passenger and his family AND for the wrecked GT-R. Because let's admit it, just because you own a Nissan GT-R doesn't mean you're already THE SHIT on the road.

But as for Gutierrez, all I can say is that money talks, especially when one starts wondering why no civil AND criminal suits were filed against him.

Roadside Ass-sistance: another PG Porn installment

Sasha Grey's car is jacked up and James Gunn is the only guy who can help her.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines introduces the 2010 Galant SE

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC) further adds excitement to its vehicle line-up as it introduces the new 2010 Mitsubishi Galant SE. Exuding class and sophistication, the all new Galant is loaded with stylish and high tech features that best suits an executive car. MMPC’s President and CEO, Mr. Masahiko Ueki said that “The intro of the all new Galant reinforces MMPC’s passenger car line up and gives us the opportunity to improve further our total passenger car market share”.

This Euro inspired styled sedan measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height. Cabin room length is 1,997 mm, translating to more legroom for its passengers. The front grille features a new design chrome radiator with the striking three-diamond mark. High Intensity Discharge (HID) main lamps with user selectable level adjustment provide a brilliant view of the road during night time driving. Electronically controlled side mirrors (with power folding functions) were integrated with side turning lamps. Each side of the car is caressed by protective door mouldings with chrome insert. Other distinct touch to the all new Galant SE inherent to European cars is its fin-type antenna mounted on the rear edge of the roof.
Inside, the new Galant radiates comfort and luxury. Seats were wrapped in glove-soft black leather. An 8-way power-adjust with lumbar support is standard for the driver seat while passenger seat has a 4-way power-adjust. Seats are ergonomically designed to make even long journeys comfortable. Other comfort touches include a fully automatic climate control system, automatic retractable rear glass sunshade, separate rear aircon vents, map lamps & rear seat reading lamps and a host of compartments on the center console, instrument panel and rear seat armrest.

Powering the Galant SE is a 2.4-liter MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control System) engine. It can adjust the valve timing for optimal performance for all driving conditions. This enables it to produce higher torque at low rpm ranges for quick, clean starts and higher output in the high ranges for better passing ability. The 4G69 MIVEC engine provides numerous advantages over its predecessors. Throughout its construction, Mitsubishi engineers have found ways to increase efficiency and durability while simultaneously reducing weight and emissions. The power and efficiency of this 4G69 MIVEC is harnessed by Mitsubishi’s fully advanced and intelligent INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission with sportronic feature. This transmission studies the driver’s driving habits under a variety of conditions and uses two shift control programs to determine the best balance of power, control and efficiency. For spirited driving, a tiptronic shifter is available and can be controlled on the shift lever or thru the steering wheel.
Smooth ride and stable handling is provided by an all-wheel independent suspension system. McPherson struts with stabilizer bars up front and multi-link with stabilizer bars at the rear assures quick response to the driver’s commands, even when road conditions turn tricky, reducing understeer and improving cornering stability when powering through turns yet providing a refined luxury. New design 10-spoke 17-inch wheels complemented with 215/55 R17 93V provides excellent grip on the road.

The new Mitsubishi Galant SE is equipped with a fully functional Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) Navigation system which is first in its class. The dealer option GPS Navigation system complements the Galant multi-information and entertainment function. The navigation system can direct you to your selected destination visually through Galant’s 7-inch in-dash monitor located in the center of the dashboard. The system is also capable of providing other helpful information such as streets, major buildings and establishment names, speed limit of certain street etc.

The new Mitsubishi Galant SE is also equipped with a full entertainment system which features an original equipment DVD/CD/MP3 FM & AM band audio system with Dolby Digital 5.1 feature. This Dolby Digital feature of the audio system is complemented by the 12-way speakers with 10-inch subwoofer and a center speaker.
Further adding to the list of high tech features is its keyless entry security system with engine immobilizer. The original set of keys included in the car has a built-in transponder that sends a unique verification code to the ignition switch to protect itself from unauthorized duplicated keys. The remote transmitter can also be used for opening the trunk. Opening the trunk as well as the engine hood is now effortless with the assistance of gas struts.

On its safety aspect, the all new Galant SE is equipped with dual stage SRS airbags. A rearview camera plus front and reverse parking sensors makes parking maneuvers effortless and safer. The central door locks also has an auto lock feature once the vehicle moves to 5 km/hr. As an additional safety feature, the Galant SE audio and video system has Bluetooth connectivity function with mobile phones. Taking calls while driving has been made easier and safer with this feature. Once the mobile phone is paired via Bluetooth, access through the phone’s directory as well as making phone calls can be made through the steering wheel mounted controls.

The 2010 Galant SE is now available in three colors: Merlin Black, Excalibur Silver and Nicolei Grey. Suggested introductory price is P 1,588,000.

Drifting is... WAY COOL!!!

I've already blogged about this in my personal blog but for the benefit of those who have no idea what I do for a living, well, I make a living as a staff writer for Top Gear (Digital), the website of the country's BEST automotive magazine!

I LOOOOVVVVEEEE the BBC program, even the post-Jeremy Clarkson, pre-revamp shows since Tiff Needell's powerslides were entertaining enough (I even believe Tiff just might be The Stig, but that's another blog story) so when the chance came for me to be a writer under the Top Gear brand - even if it's just for the website of the locally-licensed version - I just had to jump in, leaving behind the generous salary I was earning then to make a living as an impoverished motoring hack.

Now, one of the perks of my job is going to cool motoring events that the general public isn't privy to. I've attended the launch of brand new cars from various manufacturers, I've gone to press events that introduced newfangled gadgets for cars, I've gone to government-sponsored motoring-related events, I've even attended award shows for the country's top motorsport drivers. But the one thing that still brings a smile to my face is when I remember the day the entire Top Gear team went drifting.

Yes, courtesy of JP Tuason and his Tuason Racing School, we were taught the basics of drifting, Initial D-style. And lemme tell you, IT IS HAAARRRDDD! To sum it up, it's just like what Yoda said to Luke, 'you must unlearn what you have learned.' And that basically means you have to throw away everything that you've learned about driving a car and do the exact opposite of all that! And if you think you being able to drift means you're already the shit, try riding shotgun while a REAL drift racer takes you out for some nasty powerslides!

Although it seems drifting's a smooth thing on video, when I was filming that, I was being thrown left and right inside the truck! So thank God for the helmet, the five-point harness, and the racing seat!

Next week, it's the Manila International Auto Show, and that only means cars AND booth babes! And since Top Gear will have a booth there, expect this Typical Guy to do a complete coverage on both! After all, I'm just doing my job!

Another installment of Girls and Cars...

In my line of work, I see nothing but girls and cars everyday. So, yeah, I love my job.

Now, for my latest installment of girls AND cars, I give you Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2009 models Damaris Lewis, Jessica Hart, and Melissa Haro hopping into three brand-spanking-new Nissan 370Z's driven by Formula D Series drivers Tony Angelo (silver 370Z), Chris Forsberg (red 370Z), and Ryan Tureck (yellow 370Z) as they're taken for a wild ride featuring lots of power slides and tire-burning donuts.

Now, if only the video had the babes in swimsuits AND it had Danica Patrick driving one of the cars in a swimsuit, then that would really be AWESOME!

I'm not a big fan of high-top kicks but I do make an exception sometimes...

Even during the time back in high school when I played b-ball a lot, I never did become a big fan of high-top kicks. But still, my love for low-top sneakers didn't stop me from buying high-top kicks that were either awesome in looks or were bound to be future collectibles - that is, if they were in my budget range.

And so, after buying my last pair of high-top kicks in late 2004 in the form of adidas' white/blackT-Mac 4, the first shoe in adidas' line-up to feature their revolutionary - and patented - HUG system...

... it looks like the next pair of high-top kicks I'll be getting would be Nike's Air Max Bizness Manny Pacquiao PE (Player Exclusive).

The Pac-Man's signature kicks carries the country's national colors, with a white leather upper, blue patent leather on the toebox and the heel, and red accents on the inner lining and the swoosh's border.

A great design highlight on the shoe is the lasered rendition of the Philippine eagle from the Pac-Man's Nike-sponsored, Mike Friolo-designed crest. I have other Nike kicks with laser-rendered designs, the most prominent in my collection being my now-broken-down white/sky blue and now-hardly-used black/white pairs of Nike's Zoom LeBron II Lows.

But arguably the biggest highlight of this pair of PEs is the box, which is actually made of wood that's also been lasered with the Pac-Man's name AND the aforementioned crest.

Every Pac-Man fan worth his salt knows that one of the Pac-Man's favorite pasttime is playing b-ball so there's no doubt then that he'll have on a pair of this sweet kicks while he's playing a game in GenSan.

Too bad though that there's no info on NikeTalk yet on when the shoes would come out and just where they'll be made available.
