$80 million for 6 years?! For Andre Iguodala?! WTF?!?

Now that's not right?! Sure, he may be the Philadelphia 76ers' new AI but the real deal AI he is not to be worth that kind of money! After all, when the Sixers extended Allen Iverson's contract for $70 million in 6 years prior to the start of 2000 NBA season, AI was the league's top scorer as he averaged 26.8 points per game AND carried the Sixers to the playoffs of the '99 season as they pulled an upset over the heavily-favored Orlando Magic before going down to the much talented Indiana Pacers in the 2nd round!

What about Andre Iguodala? What has he done for the Sixers to deserve that kind of money, other than averaging 19.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game last season? Or even worse yet, his performance in their 1st round playoff loss to the Detroit Pistons where Iguodala averaged just 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds? Are those the numbers of a 6-year, $80 million player? I don't think so.

"Show me the money!"

Still, I say give the man the chance to prove his worth. After all, with Elton Brand now in the Sixers' fold, Iguodala just might get more open looks at the basket - a luxury he didn't have last season where he was often double teamed by their opponents. So he better rack those numbers up or else he'll become like those other players who just kicked back and coasted through each season once they got the $$$ they wanted. Ain't that right, Starbury?
